Some creative peeps have been worried about AI replacing. Even in my industry, as a website designer, I was a bit scared at first, too. But things have changed since giving these new tools a test run. And seeing how others were utilizing apps like Midjourney and Dall-E 2 into their creative process opened my eyes to the possibilities.
Not only have I been working more since the advent of AI, but its completely changed my entire business model. Now I can't go a day without using ChatGPT or Midjourney for my own projects and clients as well.
It's so revolutionary in fact, that I wrote a whole book (with the help of AI) about how to use these new apps if you're building a website.Â
But this blog post will cover the basics and get you started.
First and foremost, you need to know some parameters to add into your prompts for when you're fully activated as a Midjourney user.
- --ar 4:5 (aspect ratio)
This parameter should be set to 16:9 for website concepts. Or 9:16 if you're looking to create a design more geared for mobile users.
- --chaos 100Â
Using chaos parameters make your outputs more imaginative. It can get pretty wild depending on the specifics you're looking to generate.
- --v5Â
You get to choose which version of Midjourney you want to run your test images through. Version 5 is the latest as of today, mid-April 2023.
There are way more parameters but these are the top 3 I tend to use in my prompts for website design concepts.

Some people use Dall-E 2 for this kind of work, and you can but let's compare the same prompt input on Dall-E 2 with what Midjourney v5 comes up with.

These are so boring and unimaginative and colorless. It looks like someone's first time playing with Canva. They're not TERRIBLE but they're not great and need some serious editing.

Now we know Midjourney is superior to creating logo design concepts for businesses. Next, we can start building out the visuals of the brand with a moodboard design.

No more time wasted scrolling Pinterest for hours (well I still might). But look at this beautiful layout for a moodboard. With a color palette included, product mock-ups, gorgeous imagery that matches the whole vibe. Really lovely output.
With this vision being laid out, you can move onto the actual website design process. If you've got your brand name, domain, hosting, and theme builder all picked out, that is. But that's not what this blog is about. Hit me up for full development assistance.

Though it's not a fully functioning website yes, the designing process can be done faster than ever. Giving you the brand guidelines you and your team needs to develop a website with way less time in the ideation phase.
These outputs are never the final the product, its still up to website designers to implement the generated images into a functioning product. Midjourney has not put my website designing business to rest, but in fact, it's allowed me to produce more amazing concepts, faster than ever before.
That is also the scary part. Because AI won't replace us, it only increases the expectations of our output. More art. Faster.Â
